Hardeep K. Kataria, OD

Dr. Hardeep Kataria was born and raised in Windsor, United Kingdom. She relocated to Orlando, FL with her family in 2001 and has since completed her education in the United States. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Human Nutrition and a minor in English literature from the University of Florida. During this time, she was introduced to optometry while volunteering as an optometry intern at the Malcolm Randall VAMC. Sparked by her interest in optometry, she founded and developed the Pre-Optometry Internship Program. Dr. Kataria attended the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA, where she earned her Doctor of Optometry and graduated with honors. She maintained her membership in the National Optometry Honors Society, Beta Sigma Kappa, throughout all four years of her optometric education. During her externship year, she rotated at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL, learning from the top educators in optometry and ophthalmology. She then provided specialty pediatric low vision exams for students enrolled in the Perkins School for the Blind in Massachusetts. Throughout her optometric education, Dr Kataria developed a strong interest in ocular disease and went on to complete a residency in Primary Care/Ocular Disease at the Baltimore VAMC in Maryland. Here she provided comprehensive eye exams to patients with diabetes, cataracts and glaucoma. Dr. Kataria also volunteered abroad in Nicaragua in 2008 and 2010 with the South East Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH). She provided glasses to patients in need and conducted comprehensive eye exams, identifying many patients with end stage glaucoma and progressive conditions such as keratoconus Dr. Kataria has presented posters at the American Academy of Optometry annual conference and is a member of the American Optometric Association. Dr. Kataria relocated to California last year and currently works as a clinical assistant professor associated with the Western University College of Optometry. She lives in Pasadena with her fiance and enjoys hiking, weightlifting and reading. She is fluent in Hindi, Panjabi and can speak clinical Spanish. .
